Petronas’ Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Ranked Amongst World Top 100 Brand Guardians

The Recognition is Attributed to Tan Sri’s Zul’s Visionary Leadership & Performance of Petronas

Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, President & Group CEO of Petronas is making an impact in the global marketing and branding arena having being included in Brand Finance’s list of top 100 Global Brand Guardians for 2019.

This is a significant achievement for the country and Petronas as it recognises the Malaysian entity’s capabilities, achievements and emerging as a leading oil & gas performer in the region.

Coming into his fourth year with Petronas this April, the hardworking and humble Group CEO achieved this during a period when the oil & gas industry was faced with enormous challenges. Wan Zulkiflee has been instrumental in steering the national oil company (NOC) to becoming more resilient, whilst achieving improved performance. This is attributed to his astute and visionary leadership and prudent management practices.

Although the changing landscape and fluctuations in crude prices continue to prevail, these revolutionary changes (in Petronas) has put it in good stead amongst other NOCs in the region.

According to David Haigh, CEO, Brand Finance the main purpose of a strong brand has always been to ‘make money’. That is why we connect brands to the bottom line. Of course, ‘making money’ is not possible without other instrumental elements such as attracting customers, building brand loyalty and motivating employees.

Hence, Brand equates performance or profitability, and Petronas’ track performance during these challenging times have been nothing less than impressive.

The NOC’s after-tax profit over a nine-month period ended September 2018 was US$10.07billion, up 50% from a year ago. While its revenue for the same period increased by 12%, from a year ago, to US$44.50billion.

It is obvious that the ‘business formula’ adopted and integrated in its business strategies and processes has not only made the NOC profitability during challenging times but also resilient to market fluctuations in the oil and gas industry.  While this can be attributed to the visionary direction of the President & Group CEO, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee in creating a strong regional and global presence, it is also how the talented employees of Petronas have responded to his leadership and collectively raised their game.

  • Petroleum Refinery Business do help Petronas through the economic & business storms!!! No matters whatever the cost of Petroleum, refining petroleum had it guaranteed margin of profit.
Previously during the First Half of Petronas’ history, Petronas’ crude was send to Singapore for refining and returned with much higher cost (just like the Water Deal). Now Petronas refined almost ALL of our needs of Petroleum Product and even refined for other countries as well as strategic infra for troubled countries.
Petronas need to stressed it independent to control it finances, asset and management from political interference.
